Kazuri Mazuri means ‘small and beautiful’.
Kazuri Mazuri is one of my favorite collections because I was asked to create this collection from a large number of Kazuri Mazuri beads (made by a women’s art collective in Kenya) that were considered imperfect. As I found after receiving the pieces imperfection and perfection are definitely in the eye of the beholder. To me, they were all amazing. The beads were amazing as individual pieces and then enhanced any piece I used them in. There were delicate veiny cracks that simmered through the iridescent glaze of the ceramic beads. I’m still in love with each of these pieces especially the scarab which I found in an antique shop in Arizona.
