Goddess is one of a series of books that are all odd shapes and sizes and incorporate handles and straps. When I developed this series of books I'd talked to a number of artists and poets that said one of the primary reasons they didn't have their books with them at all times was that they got tired of carrying them. I decided to come up with a solution.
I have to admit, the book to me at this point has become merely a vehicle for imagery. As much as I love making books for people to write in, I love making books with great imagery on the front and back covers for people to write in. Having a special place to put your thoughts is important. You don't really want a journal that 100 other people have because you aren't like anyone else.
The imagery for Goddess began from a photo I took of a San Francisco mural. From there I collaged and painted it. There's even a little gold leaf added in.
